Are you getting in the way of your business?  Not that you are trying to get in the way, but it just seems that every time you dive in and get involved in something that it tends to go differently than you anticipated?  Are you in touch with your power as the business owner?

Typically pretty early in a relationship with a business owner, we will tell them that running a business can get pretty boring when it’s going well.  As you might imagine, most of them don’t believe us.  Or they react the way they do when we tell them that retirement can be pretty boring too and they’ll say, “Let me try it and see!”

Getting in the way is one of those curses (or blessings) of building a good team around you.  What happens is you wake up one day and realize you aren’t doing any of the day-to-day stuff in the business any more.  All that stuff you’ve been doing for years or decades is now suddenly handled by someone else.  Being a typical business owner you have trouble sitting still so you decide to jump in and “help out.”  Only it doesn’t help.  Instead it distracts or diverts or confuses or worse yet, it drains your team.

And guess what, many times your team won’t push back on you and tell you to get out of the way.  You are still the boss after all so you can do what you want.  But if you truly want your business to grow, you’ve got to get and stay out of the way!
